CCCL Update - Public Comment Period Extended

There are several matters that we would like to bring to your attention at this time concerning the proposed changes to the CCCL on Cape San Blas.

On Tuesday, March 27th, Commissioner Barnes, Commissioner Williams, Don Butler, Paula Pickett, Laurel Eiler, Pat Hardeman and Susan Wright met in Tallahassee with Representative Patronis, followed by a meeting with Senator Lawson and FDEP representatives Mike Barnett, Gene Chalecki and Jennifer Fitzgerald, to discuss the impact of the proposed relocation of the CCCL (and 30-year erosion projections) on the County and property owners.

Of critical concern and focus was the potential impact of the 30-year erosion projections on undeveloped parcels and the potential for those parcels to become "unbuildable" or otherwise be significantly impacted.  At this time, there are only rough estimates regarding the number of properties impacted; however,  the County and FDEP are working together to determine which properties will be significantly impacted by the proposed changes.

In addition, as a result of the meeting, FDEP has extended the period for public comment an additional 21 days.  Public comment on this matter will now be accepted by FDEP through April 19, 2007. CLICK HERE to view the letter received from Gene Chalecki today.

We sincerely want to thank Senator Lawson, Representative Patronis, our County Commission, & Don Butler for their attention and concern on this matter!  We would also like to thank FDEP for extending the time period for public comment and for meeting with us in Tallahassee this week.

If you have not already done so, please take this opportunity to voice your concerns to FDEP, Senator Lawson, and Representative Patronis.   CLICK HERE for the previous eblast with contact information.  Remember, as you will see at the link above, your public comment may also be emailed.

Secondly, we have had a number of requests for maps showing the proposed changes to the CCCL and 30-erosion projections.  As a result, we have included a link to the Gulf County website where the maps can be viewed; however, it is very important to understand that these maps only include projections for the estimated 30-year erosion "line."  These estimates were made by the County GIS Department based on the information received from FDEP.  The FDEP has not finalized the estimates; therefore, this may or may not be where the actual 30-year erosion projection will fall.

Please CLICK HERE to view the maps, along with additional information concerning the proposed changes to the CCCL.

Finally, CLICK HERE for a link to the article published in the Star this week regarding the March 22nd meeting held at Rish Park concerning the CCCL that you may find of interest.  We would like to thank the Star for their continued coverage of this important issue.
